These are the mad political rantings of one Matthew McNeil, Liberal/Democratic radio host in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN. The postings are mine, the thoughts are mine. Mostly about politics, but I will occasionally get into raising kids, cooking, gardening, the arts and my favorite sports. Bon Appetite!

The Firday Link for 3/7/25
Howdy All!
This week, we start with two from Dan McClellan, the YouTuber who confronts the modern-day exaggerations of Christian zealotry, dogma, and outright religious conspiracy theories who wished they were real.
The first video is a great one. There is this long-standing myth that some guy from nearly 1000 years ago predicted every Pope in order, and how the very next one in line signals the 'end of days.' I've heard about this and was always intrigued. Thanks to Dan, I shouldn't have been, as this story was from around 1590 and was clearly made up. By the time the story was finally published in 1595, the predictions were already laughably wrong.
Another element of modern Christianity I find hilarious is the determination of some to prove everything they want to be true is true, but they also believe in a fantasy world interpretation, which is outright laughable. Such is the case of Goliath. They want Goliath to be real but then claim him to be Hagrid from Hogwarts tall!
Dan to the rescue again, as he points out that Goliath was tall, but not Godzilla tall.
Finally tonight, how in the hell do you screw up a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup?
Anti-Chef, which started as him mainly tackling Julia Child recipies, tackles a real doozy from Thomas Keller. This recipe is ridiculous. I'm not saying it's not delicious, but it's just far more freaking complicated than it needs to be, pretentious, and so taxing it can't possibly be for the average everyday cook.
What's crazy is that if you have a very basic knowledge of cooking, you can make a pretty good grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup! It's the 'Smoke on the Water' of cooking! Butter a piece of bread. Place it butter side down on a skillet. Place 3 to 4 slices of good old-fashioned American cheese on the slice, and then place another slice of bread on top where the outside portion is also buttered. Flip until cooked and melted. Grab a can of Campbell's Tomato soup. Instead of water use half and half and stir so it doesn't burn. DONE!!!
And it's really easy to make a pretty basic homemade tomato soup from scratch. Joy of Cooking has a basic recipe, and you can branch out from that.
This Keller recipe is a nightmare (not including Jamie's personal events). Watch him do this, but unless you have an industrial kitchen and advanced cooking knowledge, don't even try this one.
Have a great weekend, everyone. Stay vaccinated and stay safe.
