When considering what to put on the Friday Link, it's hard to pass up the impact of late night television from the last week, so we'll post the two clips which got the most press, and another for fun. Warning ***LANGUAGE***!
First up, a clip which has impacted political dialogue and societal culture in America. Jimmy Kimmel's heart wrenching description of what his son went through brought the nation's focus on what it means to have a humane healthcare system. Kimmel's point that no parent should have to ask if they can afford to save their child is so true. While his plea to save the healthcare system didn't stop the House Republicans from gutting it with their Trumpcare vote, the Senate has already adopted the phrase "the Jimmy Kimmel test" referring to the idea any healthcare reform which comes out of the Senate needs to make sure parents are never put into that position.
Next up is Stephen Colbert, who had his highest ratings since signing onto the show this week. On Monday, after Trump insulted CBS Face The Nation host John Dickerson to his face, Colbert lashed out in what I thought was an appropriate rebuttal. At one point, he described Trump pleasing Putin in an oral sexual way, to which some people, led by fervent Trump loyalists, accused Colbert of using the comment as a homophobic slur. It's interesting watching people who gleefully used undeniable homophobic slurs in everyday comments, suddenly do a 180 and act as if they were on the Stonewall Inn front lines, but, to be fair, some of the critics weren't Trump lackeys. This is a sexual act women and men do, so I guess the fact he said it about two allegedly straight men was where he got into trouble. I'm not sure. Personally, none of the gay friends I have seem upset about it. Colbert, the next night, said he didn't regret saying what he said, but he might have changed a word or two. Needless to say, he's not backing down.
And here is a fun one about Will Ferrell shaving Conan.
Have a great weekend everyone!
