We're Going to Win Twins? We're Going to Score?

Baseball is back, and with it the promise of another season of Twin's baseball keeping us mildly interested into August.  Last year stung, as crappy play in the summer lead to us coming up just short in September, but something happened on the way to this season; the Twins got better.

Sano, Park, Buxton, Dozier, Plouffe...we've got a lineup!  Three good starters, a solid closer, but concerns about the middle relief should make this season nerve racking.  Overall, I'm excited about this year and feel as if the Twins might be able to get that wild card spot this season.

Mauer's contract is still a bear, and the organization's kid glove treatment of him is the last big hurdle this team needs to overcome.  Park and Sano should platoon 1st base/DH and Mauer should be pushed out into right.  The organization's fascination with him at first is perplexing.  He's really not very good at it, and baseball isn't Moneyball, where Chris Pratt's catcher makes good with the position change.  Also, I have a hard time thinking of a worse pay level to offensive production ratio in baseball history.  Yes he gets singles, but he's nowhere near the league leaders in batting average, RBI's, slugging, home runs, on base percentage and extra base hits.  This year, he makes 23 million. Next year, he makes 23 million.  In 2018, he makes 23 million.  He currently has the 14th biggest contract in baseball history, and is tied for the 24th biggest one year salary in baseball history.  Anyone who insists "he's worth it!" should never be allowed to watch baseball ever again!

(Sigh...)

Mismanagement of funds aside, I feel good.  If Mauer does return to the from he had a few years ago, Sano continues his development, and Park is who they say he is, Twins baseball will be alive in October.
