Jessica Sanchez is an engaging host who brought her web series Foodways to Minneapolis for two different segments. Both were unique and very entertaining.
The first is a piece on Northern food, the cuisine of the upper midwest. She not only has a great segment with The Bachelor Farmer folks, she does a wonderful job of not wallowing in the cold aspect of Minneapolis/St. Paul. As a matter of fact, her take on the Cities is cordial, warm and pretty accurate. I can't stand when hosts come to Minnesota and act surprised we're civilized, considering our 'curse,' the morbid winter we must be too dumb to leave. Not Jessica. She avoids the weak winter interview cliches, focusing on the meat and potatoes of the region's food. Jessica, we all know the Stone Arch bridge was really cold. Good on you for venturing out there.
The second piece she did is even better, and goes WAY beyond just an entertaining food piece. She talks with Diane Yang, from Spoon and Stable, not only about her cooking, but the Hmong experience. This is an amazing piece, a perfect segment to show someone who doesn't know or understand the Hmong, and their migration to Minnesota. When a food piece does that, it's elevated to something far more wonderful. A great segment. What do I want more: the Hmong food or the desserts?
Nice job Zagat, Nice job Jessica! Have a great weekend everyone!
