The Friday Link for 11/6/15

We've had a few months of Stephen Colbert hosting the Late Show on CBS, and let me say for the record, everyone else in late night must be scared.

Let me remind you, I really like Fallon, Kimmel, John Oliver, Conan, Seth Meyers, James Corden, and Larry Wilmore, and Trevor Noah is doing a pretty good job of stepping into Jon Stewart's shoes (but he does need more time to try to grow into them better).  Late night has never been better in my lifetime, but Colbert is taking the rest of late night to town.

He doesn't mind getting political, or talking about the issues which most other late night shows avoid.  Other shows talk about the Kardashians, or what wacky news item they have.  Colbert talks police violence, international news and very publicly criticizes the Presidential candidates.  Other shows interview stars who have a new television show or a movie coming out, the cute kid with a funny pet, or the 100 year old grandma.  Colbert has big entertainers, but doesn't shy away from business leaders, journalists and authors.  Every morning, Colbert has at least four or five hilarious moments from the previous night.

He has taken a lot of the best parts of his old Comedy Central show and has molded it into Late Night, minus the bloviated far right caricature he created.  He has become the perfect replacement for Letterman.  He might not ever be the #1 show, but he'll give the other shows fits trying to keep up with him.

Two from the show so far.  First his take down of the CNBC debate:

Then there is this great bit with him and Daniel Craig from earlier this week.  Enjoy!
